Free time: Rodokanakis

October 11, 2018

Saturday October 6 11:00 - 13:00

On Saturday, October 6th, we organized a children's workshop at Skaramagas Refugee Camp based on "The Crimson Rose" by Plato Rodokanakis and inspired by Oscar Wilds’ story "The Nightingale and the Rose". The latter was a favorite short story of the main character in Rodokanakis's book and the coast of Skaramagas was the site of Rodokanakis's final chapter. Employing physical theater techniques, we narrated the story and created with the kids a handcrafted rose garden and transformed ourselves into birds and insects, bringing life into our creation.

This was the first of a series of artistic events tracing the work of Greek writers in the city of Athens, reinforcing the connection of Athenians with literature, through experience, in addition to highlighting specific sites through books.  Each event contains a collective action, voicing issues of daily city life related to time.

The event took place at Skaramagkaw Refuggee Camp and was not open to the general public due to camp regulations.

Co-ordinator for the activity  Rea Zekkou, Anna Magoulioti
