About S.T.ARTS4WATER
Bringing together art, technology and science, STARTS4Water aims to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our times: water management.
STARTS4Water supports artists, researchers, technology experts and other stakeholders in finding a common ground and language to respond to regional water – related challenges. Focusing on clean water as a basic right for all humans and on the conservation of life in our oceans, seas and marine life, STARTS4Water builds on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and especially on SDG 6 «Clean Water and Sanitation» and SDG 14 «Life Below Water».
Through the STARTS4Water project, 10 artists’ residencies in 6 regions of Europe are funded aiming at awakening citizens into sustainable environmental management issues.
How it works
The backbone of STARTS projects is the accommodation and work of artists in the place where they will produce their work. These artist residencies are based on developing synergies between science, technology, art and the local community.
Each residency enables the selected group of artists to carry out their research, drawing on a network of experts such as scientists and experts in new technologies. Through this research, public meetings, works in progress, prototypes and final artworks emerge. The artistic residency is also accompanied by a series of educational activities around the project theme (STARTS Academy) as well as networking and awareness-raising activities (STARTS Network).
